The person behind the words
My work is in IT service coordination and incident process management. A lot of it comes down to getting the right people talking, making sure everyone knows what needs to happen, and helping things move forward when a service is disrupted.

I enjoy making complicated things a little clearer. That might mean sorting out responsibilities, following up on an incident, or spotting something we could do better next time. Connecting people and finding a way forward together are the parts that matter most to me.
That interest in how things work, change and improve also runs through what I write about here.
Three threads, one journal
The common thread is process: how things take shape, how one step affects the next, and what we learn along the way.
Cybersecurity explores the processes that help us stay safe: recognising risks, responding when something goes wrong, and learning from what happened. I’m interested in how people, communication and everyday habits make those processes work.
Digital Culture looks at the processes shaping life online: how information spreads, opinions form and new technology becomes part of our routines. Privacy, identity, language and AI all belong in that conversation, along with how these changes affect the way we relate to each other.
Storytelling follows the creative process from a first idea to a finished story. That includes building a world, finding a character’s voice and reworking a draft. Within the story itself, choices have consequences, relationships develop and people change. The process becomes part of the story, too.
Beyond the screen
Away from work, I write as R.A. Avalon. I’m drawn to complicated characters, difficult choices, and stories that leave you thinking after the last page.
History, mythology and the origins of words together with esoteric topics are interests I keep coming back to. A name or an old belief can be enough to start exploring an entirely new story.
Dungeons & Dragons and worldbuilding are part of that too, especially when other people bring their ideas into the mix.
This journal is a place to share what I’m learning, what catches my attention and what I’m creating: including the thinking and unfinished work along the way.
If something here sparks a thought, feel free to get in touch.
